| Increasingly, glass blowing and casting
has become synonymous with our region. Ola Höglund and Marie
Simberg-Höglund have brought their traditional skills from
Sweden and settled them comfortably on to the Waimea Plains.
The Höglund Art Glass Centre provides visitors with the
opportunity to see these master artists at work and even
make their own glass creations under expert tuition.
Complimenting
this truly interactive experience, Anthony Genet and Berry
Binnie-Genet operate Flamedaisy Glass Design, a fulltime
glassblowing, neon and glass lampworking studio based in
the heart of Nelson.
Minutes from the city centre, you can
visit the Flamedaisy gallery housed within one of Nelson’s
beautiful heritage building and see the glass artists at
work. Jim MacKay, a graduate of the local training institution’s
Art and Design course has stayed on in Nelson and produces
highly sought after works in cast glass and glass sculptures.
Like many other practitioners in the region, glass artists
are growing in numbers attracted by the supportive environment
provided in the region. |
