The earth itself – the clay
of the Moutere Hills - drew some of the first artisans to
Nelson. The local industry was founded by hardy souls like
Jack Laird and Mirek Smisek who had a vision to enrich people’s
lives beyond the manufactured.
Ceramic artists and potters have become part of the very
fabric of the region. Travel around the hinterland or cruise
the coastal highway and you will find talent at every turn.
From the colourful pots of Royce McGlashen to the distinctive
shapes of Darryl Robertson and Katie Gold or the thought
provoking, conceptual work by Christine Boswijk, view this
diverse and thriving foundation of our arts community through
this web page or come to our region and meet them for yourself. |
